Want to set an alias for your Umbrel Node? Follow these steps:

# Log in to your node using SSH. Usually this means opening a terminal and typing ssh -t umbrel@umbrel.local. The user is umbrel. Default password is moneyprintergobrrr for older versions of Umbrel. New versions use the dashboard passord. When typing your password you usually see nothing (for safety).
# (Optional) change your default password by typing passwd
# Open the config file sudo nano umbrel/lnd/lnd.conf . lnd is small for LND, there are no i's. It will ask you again for your password (same as before), and you will again not see you entering the password.
# You are now in the editor. Add alias=SOMENAME. This must be added to the first paragraph. Somewhere below the block [Application Options], not in a different block.
# (Optional) set color=#ff0000 or any other hex color, on a new line, just below alias. find a nice color.
# You will see the commands you can give at the bottom. The caret ^ means CTRL button. ^X is eXit, so use CTRL-X to exit the file. Confirm you want to save the buffer using Y. Press enter for file name (don't change).
# Then restart your Umbrel node. You can do this properly from the Umbrel web interface (Settings, Restart)
# IF you have public channels, it will take (max) 2 days for the new node to become visible on 1ml.com.

{|
|Thunderbolts and lightning, very very... exciting!

Lightning enables quick, cheap and scalable Bitcoin payments. The Lightning Network scales blockchains and enables trust-minimized instant payments by keeping most transactions off-chain and leveraging the security of the underlying blockchain as an arbitration layer.

This is accomplished primarily through "payment-channels”, wherein two parties commit funds and pay each other by updating the balance redeemable by either party in the channel. This process is instant and saves users from having to wait for block confirmations before they can render goods or services.

Payment channels are trust-minimized, since any attempt to defraud the current agreed-upon balance in the channel results in the complete forfeiture of funds by the liable party.

By moving payments off-chain, the cost of opening and closing channels (in the form of on-chain transaction fees) is ammortized over the volume of payments in that channel, enabling micropayments and small-value transactions for which the on-chain transaction fees would otherwise be too expensive to justify. Furthermore, the Lightning Network scales not with the transaction throughput of the underlying blockchain, but with modern data processing and latency limits - payments can be made nearly as quickly as packets can be sent. All of this with low Fees.

Hash Time-Locked Contracts (HTLCs) allow transactions to be sent between parties who do not have a direct channels by routing it through multiple hops, so anyone connected to the Lightning Network is part of a single, interconnected global financial system.

In short, the Lightning Network enables scalable blockchains through a high-volume of instant transactions not requiring custodial delegation.
You might have no channels at all. Start with Opening channels!
When sending a payment, your node calculates a route to the destination. Maybe your node has no complete view on the network yet, because it's very new? Wait some days, and/or open more channels, so you have more peers to get information from. The process to get network information is called Gossiping.

BOS Score is node scoring developed by Lightning Labs to approximate the quality of a node. You can view your BOS score lightning.computer] or here (sortable).
Purpose
It was originally designed for users opening private channels. Later it was expanded for ranking public routing nodes.
* It was used to for providing a list of nodes for Autopilot to use a candidate targets for automatically opening channels.
* It was used for identifying the initial set of nodes that can lend liquidity in Lightning Pool
